The diversity of talent in the Ubuntu community never ceases to amaze me. Surprisingly, we aren’t all 100% geek.
Some examples of course are people like Mirco “MacSlow” Müller with his capoeira (incredible to watch — seriously), and Jono and his many musical exploits.
Tonight… err well… this morning I discovered one of the members of the -au LoCo is pretty good at the whole music thing too. He’s in a (so far) smalltime aussie band called Fixxer, and IMHO, it’s good stuff. I’m pretty crap at classifying music but I think they’re like progressive rock or something.
So, just out of curiosity, who else in the Ubuntu community has hidden non-geek talents?
Comment away…

I am an avid skateboarder and spend a time polishing my skills. I’ve been doing this for 6 years now.
photography, art and music will probably prove popular.
hidden non-geek talents? I would thing each and every one of us are good at SOMETHING besides computers:)
I am a certified ( I took the test) Georgia Master Gardener. This is a U.S program through the cooperative Extension service. It teaches people how to take care of plants ( and birds & bees), and trees and landscapes. You also have to volunteer at least 25 hours a year back to the Extension service. It gets me outside and “communing” with nature, away from my computer(S)! I am also a PADI Divemaster, my wife & I love to go diving and swim with the fish! SO, at least for me, there is life beyond the computer, though I do spend way too much time in front of it. I’d LOVE to come down to Oz and dive, but you have these crazy jellyfish that kill people! I’ll stick to the gulf, where we only have sharks that take a bite out of you!
I’m a pretty fair cook. Trained professionally for my job in a 4-star restaurant as a line cook
.
I can make just about anything, and am really fast and creative with whatever’s on hand. I make soups that people tell me are simply the best they’ve had, sauces for everything, a hot sauce that’ll cause pain but you can’t stop eating because it tastes so good, chili that makes you sweat when you smell it, my own alfrados, maranaras, steak sauces, seasoning rubs, etc.
In fact, I’m pretty sure I’ve spent more on culinary equipment (pans, knives, etc) than i have on computer toys
i’m an artist and a musician. i mainly stencil tshirts and draw comics. i make music using old analog equipment (juno 106, gameboy, roland drum machines) and i’m trained in italian aria. even the people i work with sometimes forget i’m a perl/dba gal cuz i’m just so bohemian ;D
I hope we all know when to stand up and walk away from the computer for a while. I have personally found that time in front off the computer has a diminishing rate of return. I need to sit down, get it done, and go off and do something else. I am more creative away from the computer. I play guitar, play drums, ride my dirt bike, or just work out. In the process I get ideas I can knock out next time I geek out.
PS. Love the Fixxer. I wish i knew how to get more of their music.
I’m studying music at university.
And i’m looking for audio programs to use in ubuntu, cause i’ll never back to windows anymore dhashsashf
For example Audacity is a great program for people that uses Sound Forge.
Free software is a good ideia.
And free music too!
